GLORB // Signal Mission is an explicit-teaching interactive story that helps students notice changing signals in themselves and others, connect body and behaviour clues with Signal levels, and practise choosing responses that may help.
It makes changes in signals easier to notice by teaching Low, Steady, Rising and Overload one at a time, then applying them to Glorb and Tommy.
Students notice body clues, emotions and behaviour, match strategies to Signal levels, and choose a response that may support de-escalation.
Completion shows supported performance inside this lesson. It does not prove that a student can independently identify or respond to every real-life situation.
NOTICE → CONNECT → IDENTIFY → RESPOND
Energy is running low.
Things are working as expected.
Something is building.
The system is overwhelmed.
Noticing body clues; noticing emotions and behaviour in others; matching strategies to Signal levels; and choosing a response that may support de-escalation.
Personal and Social CapabilitySocial Management → Communication
The strongest link is Communication at Level 4: addressing factors that influence effective verbal and non-verbal communication in a range of contexts.
Recognising body, behaviour and communication cues; noticing when an interaction changes; and selecting a response that may better fit the situation.
Australian Curriculum v9.0 - Personal and Social Capability
The Signal categories are explained before learners are asked to apply them. AERO recommends explaining, demonstrating and modelling new content before less-guided practice.
The story breaks learning into smaller scenes and decisions rather than presenting the whole task at once. This is intended to reduce unnecessary cognitive load.
Wrong responses explain the distinction and support another attempt instead of only marking the answer wrong.
The interface uses labelled controls, keyboard access, visible feedback, read-aloud support and responsive layouts. WCAG 2.2 includes guidance for reflow, readable labels, keyboard access and target size.
This activity teaches a simplified framework for noticing changing signals. It is not a clinical, behavioural or psychological assessment.
Pair the story with discussion, adult modelling, real examples and opportunities to practise outside the screen.
People may show Low, Steady, Rising or Overload differently. The examples in this lesson are teaching examples, not fixed rules.
Different strategies help different people. The activity gives examples rather than prescribing one correct support for everyone.
